*What is Platinum-Palladium printing?
Emerging in the 1850s as the most reliable and preeminent photographic printing process, platinum prints continue to be a much sought-after commodity. The process is known for its wide tonal range and absolute archival nature: in the right conditions, platinum prints can last for hundreds of years without fading or deteriorating in any way. Unlike more conventional darkroom printing processes, the light-sensitive material is applied directly onto the substrate, creating a totally matte surface. This application is usually done with a brush or coating rod.
Printing your images in platinum will imbue the photographs with a timeless and dreamlike quality. You can frame the images with the brush strokes visible, giving the print a more painterly quality, or mat them out, letting people access the incredibly subtle tonal range more easily.
*How big can you print in Platinum?
Currently, we are only offering 4×5 on 8.5×11 paper or 8×10 prints on 11×14. This is both a limitation of our current facilities and a matter of cost.
*How much does a Platinum Print cost?
We are largely beholden to the current market price of the precious metals that go into making your prints. Quotes can vary depending on the climate– our cost of labor is fixed (see our current pricing brochure), but the total fee for this process is always in flux.
